This is made from Maple burl found in the Willamette Valley, of Oregon. It was a rather large knot on a fallen tree deep in a large forest. After cutting the piece with a chain saw, it was taken to my shop. Next was to cut more wood to shape the piece for my lathe. The bark was all picked off with awls and screwdrivers. Now comes the turning to shape the outside, then to hollow out the interior. There were several bark-inclusions, which accounts for the voids. This piece was hand sanded to 600 grit and then finished with walnut oil and carnauba wax.
This is a piece of Art that is meant for eternity and is sure to become an Heirloom.
The size is 9" x 9" and weighs a little over 2 lbs.
