This is a piece turned on my lathe from a spalted piece of Oregon Oak. I had been thinking how thankful I am to have a wonderful woman as my wife. While thinking along those lines I kept thinking about the rings we give as promises of eternal, never ending love. So out of that came this vessel and the all the rings intersecting other rings in a ring around the hole which is a ring. It is supposed to be a reminder of the eternal ring of love we have for our spouses, one that God said should not be broken. Wow, sorry sounded like I was getting ready to marry someone.
Well back to the description the rings were drawn first, then I used my pyrography tools to burn in the lines and followed that with metallic paint. Then I textured the black area and colored it with a black dye. The final finish for the piece is 3 coats of acrylic lacquer.
The piece is 8" in diameter and 2 1/4" tall and weighs 1lb 14 oz.
