The vase or vessel is made from a piece of maple wood. The shape and style emerged while I was turning the wood into the round. I saw a lookout tower that might have been found in a castle setting. From that point, I just had to imagine how they would construct a structure like this. Bricks or blocks would have been used for strength. I cut parallel lines up the piece and burnt these lines with friction from a wire. You will notice at the top it looks like some bricks are missing. This was intentional to show wear from years of wear. I used my pyrography tools to insert vertical lines to show the individual bricks. So what is a lookout tower without a window. I cut this in with my carving tools. You will notice that the window is stepped in trying to show the depth of the walls. I used alcohol dyes to inject some colors into the piece an object of change, (hopefully adding some more interest).
The piece is finished with walnut oil, carnauba wax, and shellac.
It stands 10 1/2" tall and is 3 1/4" in diameter and weighs 1 lb. 8.4 oz.
