This is a once in a lifetime piece. This burl came off of a tree in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. It air-dried for over 5 years. This piece developed on the lathe as I started turning. I really didn't have a complete plan to start with. After shaping the exterior I began to hollow out the burl. This piece several days to complete. Burls are very hard when air-dried causing me to need to sharpen my tools many times. I chose the enclosed vessel form, which when completed necessitated the need for a Lid. I went to my exotic wood supply and chose a beautiful piece of Lacewood and African Blackwood. The Lacewood was turned to fit the opening and the African Blackwood as a finial. I finished the piece with 5 coats of Walnut Oil and Carnuba Wax. Then I buffed the piece on my buffing assembly. As with all of my pieces, it is signed, numbered, and the wood species is labeled.
This piece is 12 1/2" x 10 1/2" and weighs 3lbs.
